Hi, my name is Brooke Anderson, owner of Brooke Kara Studio in Bountiful, UT.
I’m a wife and a mother to 4 children, a breast cancer survivor, and a certified cosmetic and paramedical tattoo artist based in Bountiful, UT. At the age of 32, I received the shocking news that I had her2+ breast cancer. I underwent chemo, radiation, immunotherapy, and a bilateral mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction. I strongly believe that trials and blessings are often bundled together and although this journey has been difficult, I’m incredibly grateful it has led me to what I do today, that is, providing 3D areola tattoos for other survivors like myself.
My hope is that I can make this healing service accessible to all. I’m partnered up with a non-profit, Sharesheret, to provide free areola tattoos and permanent brows (for those whose treatment caused hairloss) to those who meet their financial eligibility guidelines. I also try to keep my rates relatively low for those who don’t qualify for the non-profit.
I know people have a lot of questions about areola tattoos and scar camouflage and thought it’d be helpful to provide FAQs about these:
Is a consultation required?
Yes, I require either an in-person or virtual consultation. Both are at no cost to you. I will assess the area and discuss your medical history. We will go over your expectations and what you can do to prepare for your appointment.
How long after my final surgery can I get areola tattoos?
At least 4 months.
Does it hurt?
Those who have undergone reconstruction often don’t have much, if any, feeling left in the area. For those that do, we apply a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable.
How many sessions does it take?
Usually 2 sessions.
How long does the appointment take?
It typically takes about 2-3 hours total. That includes numbing, layout, pigment color selections, and the actual tattooing time.
How long does the areola tattoo last?
I use permanent body tattoo pigments. We do the initial appointment and a 6 week touch-up and that should last the rest of your life. With that said, any permanent tattoo could use freshening up every ten years to keep vibrant and the 3D illusion crisp.
What is the healing process like?
It typically takes 7-10 days to heal. There will be some slight scabbing and peeling. After your appointment I will apply tegederm to the area and send you home with aftercare instructions.
How long do I have to wait before each session?
6 weeks, this will give your body ample time to heal.
If you have further questions please feel free to call/text me at 801-440-9768. I’m more than happy to answer your questions and do a free consultation. I am passionate about what I do and want to help you on the road to feeling like yourself again!
Sincerely,
Brooke Anderson
