Last weekend we had the unique opportunity to meet with a very special group of ladies who originally met 4 years ago at Image Reborn’s 2019 Breast Cancer Adventure Retreat. We often talk about how our retreats last far longer than just the weekend, and this group is a perfect example of how this happens.
In May 2019, 12 strangers met in a remote town in southern Utah; their only link was the shared experience of receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. After a weekend of hiking, rock climbing, repelling, yoga, acupuncture, delicious food and so much more, these women became family. In the years that followed, they kept in touch. Sometimes through online chats, phone calls, emails, and occasionally meeting up when one visited the city where another one lived. Every year that passed, these women became closer until one day one of them, Kristy, received the devastating diagnosis that her breast cancer had come back. This amazing group of ladies rallied around her. They called, texted, emailed, and bought plane tickets to be by Kristy’s side. In 2022, Kristy passed away.
On Friday, July 7, 2023 six of the women from this group were once again reunited in Southern Utah to honor Kristy and each other. What an amazing and special experience it was for me to be in attendance. There were a lot of tears and even more laughter as we reminisced and created new memories.
A special video is being compiled and will be debuted at our 2023 Celebration of Life Gala.
